2017 is the year of highlighters! If you don't know what that is because you are make up illiterate like me, just think of the high shine you see in all of these amazing make up pictures you see on Instagram.

There are so many options to choose from so we wanted to break down the basics and share our faves from our professional make up artists on our team!

I had to recruit Brittany B. to help me out on this one and I am so excited to share some amazing photos of her make up skills that showcase this highlighting craze that everyone is always talking about.

So, here are the basics! You have the option of cream or powder when it comes to choosing your highlighter. There is a difference between the two and it is important to note if you have dry skin or oily. Britt says, "If you have drier skin stick to creams because the powder will accentuate the dryness while the cream will hydrate the skin better."

Here are some great cream highlighters that are swatched on the skin.

Becca makes amazing highlighters and as a matter of fact, it is what they became known for right away! They even have this Glow Glossary that you can sneak a peek and get a feel for the result you want!

Here is a cheat sheet for highlight placement when you are getting your shine on!  Think about the high points you want to give dimension or accentuate your features.

Britt also has another favorite: "Anastasia glow kit,  I LOVE!!. It has 4 different shades for all skin tones. Also, the kit includes more of a golden tone which is amazing on darker skin tones.  Avoid the silvers for deeper complexions to prevent the tone appearing ashy.

"I also love MAC strobe cream which you can use by itself or mix with your foundation for an all over glow." Says Britt.

Check out some of Britt's amazing bridal make up where she highlights and beautifies for brides on their wedding day.

Artist Tip:  "Use a fan brush for application since it applies less product-the point of a highlight is not to load on, but to create a natural glow where the light would naturally reflect on the face"
