boudoir.pngBoudoir photography is a blast! Releasing your inhibitions for a personal or shared set of images is empowering in many ways. We love hair and make up for boudoir shoots because it is glamorous, sultry and evokes confidence instantly in the client.

Photography peaking interest of the "behind the scenes" view of women originated in the 1920's when women were highly encouraged to remain conservative. The emergence of pin up style photography in the 1940's fine tuned the art form with wardrobe and props. Today, boudoir style has developed a variety of looks. The premise of the art is still the same, creating confidence and allowing women to express themselves.

With our upcoming Sip N Shop event called "Something For the Tatas," our entire concept centers around supporting Breast Cancer awareness in lieu of our walk for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this October. Our event will take place on Thursday, October 20th from 6:30-8:30pm. Participating vendors will be announced shortly and relate to our concept of empowering women and supporting one another in our mission to end this disease. Proceeds will directly contribute to our fund raising efforts for the walk.

In addition to these amazing local vendors, we invited a breast cancer survivor to receive personalized hair and make up from our artists for a shoot by Rachel Giouard Photography.

We captured the behind the scenes of the shoot along with boudoir hair and make up tips from Kellie & Britt on our CT team who created the look!

Make Up

Boudoir make up is all about accentuating features. Her eyelashes were double stacked with both a strip lash and individual to achieve a thicker, fuller lash as well as define the lash line. For eyes, boudoir is all glam. Using darker shades to achieve that more sultry look is a classic look for this style.

By keeping the lip color more natural, but over drawing a light liner to create a fuller pouted lip, that classic plump lip is achieved for the camera. The color chosen for the shoot is Whirl by MAC and filled in with Faux lip color by MAC

Hair

Clients that are survivors of breast cancer often have hair that grows back that has changed in texture and density. Any time you are working with fine hair or want to promote growth you want to ensure you don’t put a lot of tension or stress on the hair. We opted to use a clip extension for Claire that was also fine in density. Adding in extensions are a really great option to most looks and can give instant volume and length to a look.

Going with a finer extension for this style we instead created fullness by sweeping the curls to the side. This creates softness around the face as well. The support of pulling to the side also helps ensure the style will last! It’s a great option to dress up a look but give the security and softness length can provide.

Our upcoming event will feature the full shoot as well as our model making an appearance to meet with attendants and talk about her journey. Breast Cancer affects every one of us in some shape or form. As a company comprised of strong, motivated women, our goal is to do everything we can to support one another and make changes which help us rise taller and more empowered than ever.
