Tips For Creating The Best Wedding Style

Whether at school, work, or a wedding, the idea of a dress code is often ill-defined and creates a feeling of uncertainty and expectation. The idea of a formalized “what to wear” dress code seems to be something which was more relevant generations ago. In the age of the smartphone, where everyone is an acting photographer there are surely events to be mindful of what you’re wearing. A wedding is a prime example of an occasion that your appearance should take precedence.

Between the photographers, the guests, and the happy couple’s family, there are going to be thousands of photos taken. Regardless of what role you play on the wedding day, the chances  that you’ll be found in the background of countless images is high. Do it for the Bride and Groom who will reflect on the photo albums for years and make sure that you look your best. And as always, look your best for yourself, that extra added confidence to fully enjoy the party.

Things to consider while deciphering what to wear:

What does the invite say?

Sometimes the invitation will explicitly tell you the dress code of the event, other times the atmosphere of the event will be implied. Take note of the venue, the time of day, and the specific location as cues to help you decipher. The most common spoken wedding dress codes include:

  • White Tie & Black Tie
  • Black Tie Optional & Hollywood Black Tie
  • Semi-Formal & Smart Casual
  • Black Tie Alternative & Creative
  • Casual & Country

Which part do I play?

Ask yourself how and why was I invited, how well do I know the lucky couple? As an attendee you will fall into one of the 4 roles below, each with their own etiquettes to consider:

  1. The Wedding Party
  2. The Family
  3. The Guest
  4. The Plus-one
